I just had this done on Monday 2/19/07. Now I can't say what the long term effects are but I can tell you a little about the past few days have been like. I will give you first a little of my health history. I am 40 years old and have had very heavy periods with lots of bleeding/cramping/clots for the last 4-5 years. Getting much worse the last year or so. I have had my tubes tied for the last 16 years or so. Intially my family doc put me back on the pill and when my gyno found out he hit the roof due to my age and smoking. He put me on prometium it didn't really work but he did not want me on BC pills either. I was bleeding so heavily at times pads and tampons were no longer an option. I had to use adult diapers at times. I was due to have the surgery on Monday and started my period on Saturday. I figured they might cancel the surgery but they did not. I went in they put me to sleep and I was in surgery about an hour. I won't lie I woke up in tremendous pain. Rivaling the C-sections I had years ago. They intially gave me two small Vicodins and they did nothing at all for the pain. So then they gave me a shot of Demerol still noting another shot of Demerol still nothing. Finally after two shots of Dilaudid I still was in pain ( I am not a addict and have not ever regularly taken narcotic pain meds). I went home and took a 600 milligram Ibuprofen and viola no pain! I am weird like that Ibuprofen takes my pain away when nothing else will. I continued taking the ibuprofen skipping the Vicodins the next few days. It's now Friday morning and for the most part the pain is gone. My uterus is swollen and I am spotting but nothing near the pain and bleeding of my regular periods. I feel like I am about 4 months pregnant when you uterus is starting to really swell. I figure that will subside over time. I am a diabetic and have been battling high blood sugar and high blood pressure since right after the surgery. The high blood pressure is thought to be brought on due to the pain. I am keeping my fingers crossed. The doctor tells me it might take 2-3 months to see the full effects of the surgery (I hope not) I am hoping for sooner than that. I guess we will see.
