Greece was the first non-Asian country to develop grapevines, and make local wine. The Phoenicians brought grapevines to Greece approximately 3000 years ago. Greece taught the Etruscans, who taught the Romans, who taught the Gauls (soon to be the French) and voila, wine became the great European industry.
