I am doing a debate about raising the legal driving age and this is my main point. Can any one give me some additional support? They don't need to drive to school because your parents can drive you or you can ride the bus...You don't don't need to drive to a job because you don't have enough time as it is and you should be studying.

There's a reason why you need a certain age... for example renting a car you need to be age 25. Mainly because the company looks at your driving records if you're clean, long experience of driving, more responsible and being responsible is usually at that age a lot of young adults start get married, engaged or have their own family so they can try to be safe for themselves and others that are in the car.

You ask why a teen needs a drivers license, if you were going to win this argument you should be quoting facts of why the government should impose restriction on the freedom of its people for the benefit of all its people and not based the argument on the lack of a need as far as you can see.

For the records their are situations where teenagers do go to school full time and also work part of full time to help pay the bills. Or maybe they have a physically disabled parent who cannot drive? What if they graduated early from HS and are in college but still a teenager (in the age range you plan to exclude by raising the age?)

The simple fact is all new drivers are a higher risk group no matter the age and saying you have no reason to need the ability to drive is not a good reason to legally forbid them from being able to.

Not going out every night or studying instead of getting a job is a matter for the parents to discuss and not a job for the government.

Your right , let them ride the bus as I did. Teens don't need cars. The insurance is out of this world so they can drive. I say, raise the age to 19. Remember, driving is not a right, it's a privilege that has to be earned by a test.

Teens need a drivers license because some teens, like to go to the mall, and parents dont want to waste their own gas to drive their kids some where. Some kids also have after school activities like sports and extra curricular activities. And I have a job, so I need a drivers license to get there. Teenagers need jobs, it's common sense.

For practice. No matter what age u start driving-your first couple are the worst. So it wouldn't make any difference. You'd have crazy 18 year old drivers instead of 16 year old ones.
