A person who does the sonograms or ultrasounds is called a sonologist. A sonologist is physician, who specializes in sonology and radiology. Not all physicians who are radiologists are sonologist. The physician has to go through a specialization program to be a sonologist. The sonologist performs or interprets the readings of the sonogram or ultrasound. However, you can take courses to become a licensed sonology or radiology technician. You don't have to be a physician. The technician takes the shots of the procedures (ex, abdominal ultrasound, cranial ct scan, lateral x-ray) as requested by the physician. There is great demand for technicians in this field.

First you must take the Radiology Tech course and become an xray tech- usually a 18 month to 2 years program- then you qualify for more education to become an ultrasonagrapher.

There may be a specific term for this like 'sonographer', but it may actually be done by another specialist, like a radiologist or OBGyn (obstetrician/gynecologist). I don't know much about it, though.
