It was Anibal Sanchez of the Florida Marlins. He had six strikeouts and walked four batters. The game was played on Sept. 06 2006 in Florida against the Arizona Diamondbacks. It was the first no-hitter thrown since May 18 2004 when Randy Johnson of the Arizona Diamondbacks threw a perfect game against the Atlanta Braves. The Marlins won 2-0 and Ed Gonzalez was the losing pitcher.

Sure wasn't Jon Lieber. Anibal Sanchez threw a no hitter against the Diamondbacks on Sept 6. He had a very impressive rookie year, going 10-3 with a 2.83 ERA. He was acquired along with Hanley Ramirez (2006 NL Rookie of the Year) and a few others from the Red Sox for Josh Beckett, Gil Mota, and Mike Lowell. Good trade for the Marlins, huh!

It was the 22-year old Venezuelan rookie from the Florida Marlins, righty Anibal Sanchez. He broke the longest streak of no no-hitters in the history of the MLB. Before him, the most recent had been Randy Johnson's perfect as a Diamondback.

The 22-year-old rookie, Anibel Sanchez, from Venezuela etched his place in baseball history by tossing the fourth no-hitter in Marlins history.

Called up from Double-A on June 25, Sanchez made his mark on his 13th big-league start, silencing the Arizona Diamondbacks, 2-0, in front of 12,561 at Dolphin Stadium.

Anibal Sanchez threw the no no against the bat-less wonders the Diamondbacks. There's a good chance that a pitcher or pitchers will no hit the D-Backs again this year. That team is a borderline farm team.
