Rock was a black mans music but, when it became noticed as white people music they called it something else. Like James Brown became soul etc... Black people that kept it known as mainstream rock were often attacked by white audiences like Jimi Hendrix had beer glasses thrown at him. I think Chuck Berry also was delt some serious assault's for being a black rock star back than.

Because of the whole white/black thing rock has been segregated to white people because they publicized it first being able to record and get record deals easier.

So black people either rejected, embraced, or changed to a different form of music branching from rock such as soul or funk. Sometimes black and white crowds during the 50's unified by rock music. Unfortunately it's not that way anymore.

It's your preference. My little boy likes rock music. I guess he gets it from watching wrestling. Most black people listen to R&B, Jazz, Rap etc. I also know some blacks that listen to a little bit of everything. I also listen to Spanish music. I'm older so I usually listen to what on the radio. I'm not into the heavy rap. I mostly listen to beat not the rap lyrics. I can't rap. Just be yourself and do you.

I can agree with you more, Being weird (and eccentric) is cool. It makes your life even more interested and unpredictable. In case you haven't notice my avatar, I'm black and proud of it. I don't think there's nothing wrong with black folks listening to rock music. I mean who invented rock 'n' roll anyway? Thank you.
Anyhoo, I been listening to rock, heavy metal, punk, new wave, country, folk...etc almost all my life. I have never looked at it as color or race. I always looked at it as music, sound, and art. That includes rap/hip-hop, r&b, soul, jazz and blues. Music is the universal language and its color-blind. You have the right to listen to whatever the hell you want to listen, my African Queen. I found out that as I got older, my taste in music changed. I still listen to r&b and classic soul, but I also like rock and country music. Hell, I still listen to music from the 80's. Of course I got the questionible looks but my thing is this......If you love different kinds of music, go on and listen to it and forget what anybody else says.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. In fact, you're almost a carbon copy of me, and believe me, I've gotten crap for the music I like. But I usually just ignore them. Like what you want to like.

it relatively is definitely ok for a black individual to take heed to rock music. Black human beings invented rock music. in case you hear to early Beatles and Rolling Stones songs they're covers of black American rock - via large black artists. The Beatles and Stones are often credited with being the unique rock musicians, yet they have been heavily motivated via black American rock music. of direction as we communicate, there are extra white human beings in rock and black human beings in rap. besides the undeniable fact that this is cool to love despite music you think of is stable music.

That's too bad, what about Jazz, are they closed minded about that too, how about Blues?

Rock was originally called black music, and so was Jazz, and Blues.

I think it's a type of prejudice Black people have, if whitey likes it, it's not cool.
Rap is something I suppose is all theirs?

Jimmi Hendrix would disagree with all your friends......

So you like rock. Big deal. Just because you're black doesn't mean you only have to like rap. Listen to whatever you like - it's your choice! Don't let people tell you what to listen to. (My Chemical Romance...The Black Parade is a fav of mine)
