Well, we dont get many of those up in NY. But there's really no reason to be so afraid of em. Believe me, u will know if a tornadoe is commin. u would hear sirens and stuff from the town or whatever. It's not like ur just gonna wake up one morning and there's gonna be a tornado in ur living room. What u have is a phobia, there's really nothing to be paranoid about... just relax and chill. Another idea would be to hang around ur friends and other people a lot, when i'm with other people it helps me when i have fears 'n stuff.

Hi there I lived in Texas for 10 years from 1970 to '80.I been through 3 Tornado's,one with fatalities. Many Thunderstorms.
Your fear comes from the misinformed or peers that really don't help you understand this phenomenon.I actually like to watch Thunderstorm's, I used to watch them develope. Fascinating.
Your fear can be helped.Try seeking knowledge about severe
weather. That goes with any fears.Face them.Look up this fear on the net .I'm sure you can find help.

First, someone armed with as much information as possible has no need to be scared. Arm yourself with information. Work out a plan as to where you would go if a tornado is coming. Get yourself a really good weather radio. They emit an alarm when a tornado is present. It will help you to have time to get into a safe spot. And if you live in a trailer.....MOVE. That is totally unsafe. Houses can get destroyed too but trailers have NO where in them that is safe. And I live in FL where the deadly tornadoes just struck- yes my weather radio alarm worked:)

No youre not the only one afriad of storms. When it rains and thuders here (Houston, Texas) pack a survival bag and sit in the downstairs bathtub fully dressed. Im paranoid when it comes to storms and what helps me feel better is watching the news. I watch the news and look for the latest information ,and i look out the window to the street to see if water is rising. If I can see the street it makes me feel alot better. You can also listen to music and read a book so you can get through it without going crazy!

I live in tornado alley too, NE and it does scare the poop out of me. They kill, destroy, scary stuff! If you never heard the siren go off before, than maybe your town dont have one? It should though. Tornados are worse then hurricanes as you dont get much warning.

As a Redcross volunteer, that works national disasters, I agree with those who have stated that you become informed and get a good weather radio.
Fear will cause you, and others, more harm then you can imagine. Knowing what to do and when, plus keeping a cool head, are very important. You could save, not only your own life, but others too.
Contact your local chapter of the Redcross, they'll help you out and even traing you in what to do incase of.

You are not alone - but you have your very own phobia too. The local government should have info on tornado prep that you should get familiar with. Therapy can do the rest.
