What sorts of animal?
Almost all types of animals have some sort of defense mechanism.
Cats = claws, teeth, loud meowing & arched hair to scare off attackers
Dogs = teeth, claws, raised hair, barking, etc.
Jellyfish = swim fast, stingers
Rats = teeth
Birds = claws, ability to fly (most) away, some have extra sharp, pointy beaks
Horses = hooves to kick with, ability to run fast
