I'm talking about math problems and some of them have little nuances or issues. Like sometimes, in about 1/4 of inequalities problems, you have to remember to switch the inequality when multiplying or dividing by a negative. What's the best word for this for kids 11-18. Nuances, issues...?

I would just call it a trick. As in "what's the trick for remembering what to do here?"
