99% of the time they're only removed if something happens to the ground such as what happened during Katrina.

The theory is that they stay forever, and in most cases that is true. In modern countries, if old cemetery land is going to be taken over for other uses, court orders must be issued (St. Louis airport is an example of an old ***** cemetery), the graves must be moved. Sometimes families are compensated as well. All of the cemeteries in San Francisco were moved to another town not far away.
Ancient cemeteries have often been built over for centuries, as people forgot they were there, etc., these ancient cemeteries often cannot be preserved, when it is possible remains have been moved to other suitable resting places; but on the down side, some of the remains have ended up in museums. So, there's no knowing what might happen 3000 from now to the remains of our loved ones.
The important thing to remember is that these remains are really just the outward shell of the person. The essence or soul of the person has departed and isn't there in the dirt, dust and crumbled remains of their funereal finery.

Look up information on ossuaries and think of the days when Cities were packed with people with little money and no land available. The best many could so is rent a space in a coffin for the bodies to rot away. Then the bones would be place in an ossuary. Paris and Rome have famous ossuaries.

The physical remains are supposed to remain buried in hope of the Resurrection unless accidentally uncovered due to natural disasters or the location is lost and rediscovered during construction. then they are reburied someplace else. either with a blank head stone or a refurbished one if the person or persons are known.

we've a city cemetery - that's administered by ability of our city parks - alongside with some small family participants cemeteries that have been at one time on family participants sources. family participants and volunteers do the guard them We truthfully have a county cemetery for the damaging and for people who have not have been given any next of family participants participants. I do observe diverse nationalities being buried in close proximity - in the old component of the cemetery. i do no longer see nationalities keeping apart from now on and that i do no longer see faith keeping apart the place burials are. Our cemetery is almost complete. It now only has single grave websites. the city open a clean city cemetery 6 or seven years in the past. I do see it filling up with most of the greater youthful people who've died of over dose and different suicides. In our city there are not any Catholic cemeteries. We do have a captivating Catholic church and as quickly as had a Catholic college - with Nuns of their captivating habit - with the very extensive white head protecting. jointly as growing to be up we've been continually informed by ability of our father and mom - to step aside - on the sidewalk to bypass away room for the Nuns walk by ability of. One became right into a chum of my mom, I miss seeing the Nun's bypass by ability of. They walked bypass the place we lived going to and from the college and church. sturdy question. DeeJay.

All the answers above me must be in the USA.. Here in Australia people have to lease their plot and when the lease runs out , then their family has to pay more money to lease the plot again.. I know that is the case in the city cemeteries.. Leases are for 25,50 and 99 years to my knowledge... I live in the country (the bush) and I don't think it applies out here... I must have to enquire as my sand is running out and I don't wish to burden my family..
