why do dogs cry.?

Normally a dog will cry if they are unhappy, meaning sad. A dog will also cry if they want something and they are not getting it. Animals have feelings just like humans. Humans cry when they are sad, so does animals, humans yell when mad, dogs bark and growl. Its the same meanings.

A lot of dog breeds have watery eyes due to the eyelashes irritating the cornea. Some breeds have this worse than others and it can cause problems long term. They can also "cry " due to hair/dirt/ or debris in the eye causing it to water. Rinse your dogs eyes with room temp saline water or eye wash. Not visine etc but a sterile eye wash or distilled water and look closley at how your dogs eye lashes lay and see if any brush the eyes surface. Your vet would be able to correct a problem like that.

If its just in general, I think they have an emotional range like most other animals. Maybe they cry because they are sad.

Usually they are sad or want attention, but sometimes they cry when they get excited. Also, my chihuahua cries when she gets frustrated, like one time she couldn't fit a large squeaky toy in her mouth and she started crying XD
