Thomas Jefferson wrote the first draft. The existing document is the result of that draft with a few corrections/adjustments from James Madison and Benjamin Franklin. John Adams and others were on the committee but did not actually write the text we have today.

John Adams turned it over to him because he was a better writer and Jefferson was from Virginia which added more legitamacy (Adams is from Boston and most of the conflict was in Boston),and Adams was not well liked. Benjamin Franklin refused to write anything that would be subject to editing he couldn't control.

Thomas Jefferson was the main author of the Dof I he borrowed heavily from the philosophy of John Locke about the role of govt. But if you are asking who's hand wrote the document it was Govonor Morris of Pennsylvania

on june 7, richard henry lee of virginia offered a resolution for independence. the congress appointed thomas jefferson, john adams, benjamin franklin, roger sherman, and robert r. livingston to draft a declaration. jefferson was persuaded to write a draft, which was presented with few changes on june 28. on july 4, after debates and changes, it was signed by congress president john hancock
