The cost of the hose will depend upon what type car you're talking about; then there's the labor involved. If it's all leaking out within five miles of driving, I would use duck tape to do a temporary repair, fill the reservoir and drive it to the local repair shop, or if possible, remove the powersteering belt to prevent the pump from turning (this will naturally remove the power assist and make the car very difficult to drive). The important thing is to not drive it as much as possible as you risk of damaging the pump itself, and there is also a fire danger issue; you don't want power steering fluid leaking onto the hot exhaust manifold.

You could drive it "forever", however the longer you drive it, the more you risk causing further damage to the car. The fluid in the power steering doesn't just make it easier to turn the wheel, it also lubricates the power steering pump and the rack and pinion, and the steering gear box. If you run out of fluid the pump could seize up causing engine damage, not to mention a power steering pump replacement is an expensive job. Likewise with the rack and pinion and gearbox. If you cannot locate the leak, your best bet would be to take it to a reputable auto repair shop to have it repaired. Also leaking fluid is hazardous to the environment and water supply and also costs will add up buying fluid all the time.

Could be a hole in the line, or in the reservoir, or the pump itself could be leaking.
