hypothalamus is responsible for osmoregulation and releases different amounts of antidiuretic hormone produced by the pituitary gland. when you need to retain more water, ADH increases and makes nephron walls more permeable to water. and when you need to decrease pressure, the level of ADH decreases and you urinate more water out.
