Not at all. The following countries have a television licence of some sort:
Albania
Austria
Belgium (Walloon region)
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Croatia
Cyprus
Czech Republic
Denmark
Finland
France
Germany
Ghana
Greece
Iceland
Ireland
Israel
Italy
Japan
Korea, Republic of
Macedonia
Malta
Mauritius
Namibia
Norway
Pakistan
Poland
Romania
Singapore
Slovakia
Slovenia
South Africa
Sweden
Switzerland
United Kingdom
So while Americans may be horrified at the idea of having to pay a licence for television, for most Europeans it's a reality.

I think so the government want money from us every which way but the cost of it for just one channel annoys me i'd rather not have bbc1 on my telly, maybe they will get rid of it when we go digital surely they can't expect us to pay for digital and a tv licence (Chance would be a fine thing). For people from different countries reading this and don't believe we need a licence for tv it's true it costs £112 a year unless your over 75

Certainly not, the USA is the only country that I know of where you don't have to pay a TV licence as the money comes out of all the commercials they broadcast on their channels.

lol well as a Brit NOW living in the USA trust me MOST people over here think we are crazy when I tell them that YES in the UK you DO need a license to actually be able to watch TV...after living numerous places around the world as far as I know the UK is THE ONLY place that a license is required..BUT over here in the USA where I live if you dont have cable / dish / etc then you only get maybe 3 channels that are viewable.........

I've seen questions from Brits on their TV license, but no one else. I know we don't do that in the States...just pay our cable or satellite bill & that's it.
