Hey! I'm in college right now too and I also have to give an informative speech very soon. My instructor told us specific things that make an informative speech a good one. He said that informative speeches or speech topics can fall under certain "categories". What he means by this is that, when giving an informative speech, it can be 1) you explaining something, 2) you instructing the audience on how to do something, 3) you using a problem/solution method, or 4) giving a news-sort of speech that includes a surprise factor (in other words, giving the presentation as if it were a news headlining story). He said that a perfect speech will include A) an attention getting opener, B) Credability by the speaker, C) A Thesis, and D) A follow-up Preview (Points A, B, and C). He says that good speeches include "transitions" between each point as well (a good starting point w/ these is to begin w/ "Now that we understand....") You can give a speech on, say, a family vacation spot you have been to, some hobby that you are particularly interested in or know a lot about, a certain sport you may have excelled in...anything really...bottom line: pick something that you are comfortable talking about. It needs to be something you personally have experience with. If you show your audience that this particular topic, whatever it is that you choose, sparks a specific passion within you, they will be more interested in it than if you pick someting you know nothing or very little about. you must be passionate when you are giving this speech to give it the desired affect that you wish to accomplish. I hope this helps! Any questions feel free to e-mail me and I will see what I can do!

Unusual and Creative Ways To Retain Information.
(i.e....making up song lyrics containing facts and
putting it to your favorite song, recording it and playing
it back in your car or I Pod or similarly writting a story
containing all the facts in the plot.. Interview other
students and professionals to get their feedback on
assimilation and what kind of stimuli jogs their
memory. You could call it, In One Ear and Out the
Other, a creative approach to memory retention.
Hope this helps.

How about, learning how NOT to burden their parents with thier inability to support themselves, getting hooked up with loser boy/girlfriends, staying off drugs, saving money, working for a living to support themselves. How's that to name a few.
