No - nothing steamy! But let's say I wanted to have a 1-800 number where I gave out advice. What company would I go to to provide the number and transfer the calls to my staff of ready professionals?

You could use an Asterisk/TrixBox PBX solution and tie that into a voice over ip service to handle your calls. That is probably the most cost effective solution where bandwidth is your cost more than phone tolls.
