You're right, the earth is MUCH older than 2007 years.

2007 is used in a numbering system that divides the world's history into two different sections, AD and BC. They divide the world history at the birth of Jesus Christ.

AD means "anno Domini", (latin for "In the year of our Lord"), and BC means Before Christ. Recently, this system has been revised to reflect a more 'politically correct' atmosphere. AD has been replaced by CE (Common Era), and BC has been replaced by BCE (Before the Common Era).

However, this dating system really only works when we are dating things that happened in human history. For things that are of geologic or evolutionary time scales, we refer to them in millions (or billions, hundred thousands, etc.) of years ago. We would say the Dinosaurs became extinct around 65 million years ago, not 65 million BCE.

Many different cultures have different dates that describe the current year. The Chinese Calender tells us that the current year is closer to 5000, not 2007.

So, the answer to your original question, the earth is about 4.6 billion years old.

We live in the year 2007 a.D., which stands for "Anno Domini", Latin for "Year of the Lord". This is a Christian-centered way of counting years since the birth of Jesus Christ, and even the non-Christian world adopted it for convenience.

Anyway, before year 0, there was a long series of "b.C." years, "b.C." standing for "Before Christ". Here are a few estimates of how long "we've been around":

- If you are a religious person, then you might want to believe that the Earth is around 6,000 years old.

- If you prefer to put your faith in Science, estimates of the current age of the Earth are at about 4.55 billion years, and the age of the Universe should be anything from about 13.7 to 20 billion years. Mankind has existed for approximately 200,000 years.

After christ.....it's about-ish give or take a few years, 2007 years after Christ. If you go by the Bible's standards, the earth isn't more than 20,000 years old at the very utmost. There is geneology of Christ, but sometimes their lines were ok to skip one because 'father' could mean the same as grandfather, especially seeing as how names ran in families, you could have a John, and John Jr, so they might write just one john...that's how they kept records back then. Hope this answers your Q.

In terms of human existance, we have been here for one million or half a million yrs already. In terms of the oldest civilization, Egypt, it has been here for 5000 yrs. 2007 simply means Jesus Christ has been here for 2007 yrs.

Only 2007?! The dinosaurs have been gone for probably 100,00 years at the minimum. What about BC and AD? Lol! I think it is around 30-40 mil. years.

Mother Earth was a bit reluctant to let out her true age. It took us a long time to figure it out, but as near as we can tell, Mother Earth is four thousand, six hundred million years old (4,600 million = 4.6 billion), give or take a few hundred million years

Its like trying to find out how old your DNA is!!!

Even if we find out how old it is we many be surprised to know that it may not look like what it looks like today !!!
Instead of human DNA we may find some micro organism !

It will take hell lot of time, effort and money !!!

I don't know if it's worth finding out !

And we need to invent "time machine" so that we can go back in time !!!
