For shooting, cars, violence i'd say Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.
For just cars i'd say Need For Speed Most Wanted or Need For Speed Carbon.

Would you like them all together in no particular order. Haha, I recommend Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. That game is very fun. (Do note, it is rated M). Also if you want shooting games, try Resident Evil 4 and Area 51. Violence is my middle name with God of War. Very awesome game and my personal favorite after GTA: SA. (The new God of War 2 is coming out March 13, 2007) But since he's 10 years old you probably shouldn't pick my games.

Well, that's a pretty rough decision, considering that he's 10. Though it doesn't have shooting or cars, Guitar Hero is a fun, mostly family friendly game. If you want to get him something more violent, just make sure it's rated T and under.

Burnout Revenge is fun driving game and for shooting get him Ratchet and Clank Up your Arsenal or Ratchet Deadlocke
there is also a good racer and shooter together called Jak X Combat Racing

who doesnt love shooting cars and violence? try the burnout games, maybe the jak and daxter series mainly 2 and 3, Zelda Twilght Princess is really fun too,flatout....
