whether or not to freak out about this depends on why he is in there and how old he is. If he is old enough to be ok in there and is not a dangerous kid, then just ignore him and be quiet, he will come out eventually when he isn't getting the attention that his tantrum is supposed to get. If he is very young or mentally unstable, you can kick the door right near the handle. The weakest part of a door is the part where it latches. Usually it will bust right between the handle. Also, you can use a butter knife and a flathead screwdriver to wedge and pull the latching mechanism back. You can also try the hole that others have mentioned.

However if he is over 6 and just doing this for attention, then leave him alone and go bake something like cookies or muffins, and tell him he can have one whenever he gets done with his little moment. It will drive him crazy and he will come out, sniffling and wanting a muffin but might not ask for it....you will have to give it to him as a reward for coming out on his own.

Check to see if there is a hole in the center of the outer knob. If there is, push a nail or perhaps the straightened hook end of a coat hanger into the hole and press until you hear a click. This will unlock the door.
If there isn't a hole, you'll have to break the door.
Good luck!

Depens on the lock. If it has a small hole in the middle of the knob, then you most likely should be able to use a small screwdriver or a paper clip. If that won't work, then use an Axe.

Most interior doors have a small hole in the center of the doorknob. just use a very small headed screwdriver and insert and you can release the lock.

good luck

There should be a tiny hole in the knob. If you insert a tiny screwdriver, you should be able to turn the lock. Assuming you have one of those kind of locks.

Take an ax or chainsaw to the door. Once you have busted through, you will find that he will never do that again.
