Ask for there EIN, go to experian and Duns & badstreet and run a credit check on them. Search is your friend, so search yahoo, search wholesaler sites, call up the phone numbers - see if they answer. Email them and ask questions and gage there response.

Do the detective work. Contact the local Chamber of Business office in the city the business is located in (more aptly located in the area's City Hall or Town Hall). Ask the questions.
Wouldn't hurt to contact the BBB (Better Business Bureau), either. And if you really want to delve into it, might want to speak to the area's police department as well.
I'd say have the business offer you a few of their contacts for references, but they'll surely hand you those they know will speak well of them / sell pitch their business services.
