That has happened to me before too, but it wasn't an eye pod it was a really nice necklace... I never did get it back, I kept asking for it all the time while I was at school. So my advice don't just keep asking for it at school cause you won't get it back. Drastic measures need to be taken. If he is a friend of yours, go over to his house some night and ("hang out") and search for it while there. Those things are tiny so it will be hard to find. This may be crappy advice but you could take something of his, and tell him your not giving it back to you get your ipod.
Depending how old you are too, when I was in 6 or 7th grade I had a friend steal a bracelet of mine. I found out when I came over to visit. Her mom and her opened the door, and I saw it on her wrist. I said out load that is my bracelet.. She got in trouble but I got it back.
Did you mark you name on it or anything probably not huh, cause I was going to suggest watching him like a hawk.. He can't use it as long as you are around. Tell your friends to watch him too.. and notify them to bust him if they see it too.

Well, this is a lesson learned.
You can't go to the principal because you aren't supposed to take ipods to school, if I'm correct.
This is a bit out there, but threaten him. Threaten to tell about something you know about him, or to beat him up, or something. Or if you want to be dirty, steal something of his until you get your ipod back. You got to be a man and get want you want the hard way.
I know I shouldn't be telling you these types of things, but let's be honest. You got hustled. Now you do what you got to do.

Tell him to give it back and to stop being a *****. Just to let you know, not every "new" friend is really a "friend". I've had my iPod stolen and I wasn't able to get it back - I am on my third at the moment.
Anyway, get that thing back, tell him to stop screwing around and that it's not a joke. If he still does not give it back, you might as well get your parents involved - nobody deserves to get their iPod stolen (unless they stole it!)

Firsty you should never lend anything to a new friendif it was me I would take it up to both my teacher and my parents. Unless you prefer the longer more stressed way of playing detective, talking to him or just bringing a gang of friends to take him and beating him up until he confesses i believe thats the easier way.
