i get so tired of the socalled transsexuals and transgender individu
ls, getting on telivision and making themselves look bad? besides
themselves, i wonder who or what organization or community, do
they think that they are representing? Because its sure is not my
part of the neighborhood. I am a female transsexual or transgender
and i take pride in myself, and i represent myown self. I can draw a
ll of the attention to me that i need, the community gets enough of
negativenism, without these people going on tv, drawing uneeded
attention to themselves. do they need publisity that bad? That they
will have people think that entire community acts that way? Repres
ent yourselves, but you sure dont speak and represent me. i got m

No, they do not represent me.

Let me first say that I'm a transsexual and don't consider myself transgendered or otherwise gender variant. True-Transsexuals are not "gender variant," but gender conformists. Now, it is true that some TSs are also intersexed, but that's a physical variance, not a variance in gender concept, character, nor behavior. Trans+ means to cross, and +sexual on transsexual applies to the physical body and what is below. So TSs cross from one physical sex to the other, and that is done through surgery. Transgender makes no sense when you break down the word. You cannot cross from one gender to another. Gender is a permanent trait you are born with and cannot change. If gender (ie., the sense of who you are) could be changed, there would be no transsexuals. The term transgender was invented by an anti-TS, crossdressing bigot. Today, the term transgender is foisted upon transsexuals as a form of hate and as a way to erase and destroy their unique culture and identity.

Anyway, most of the "transgendered" persons on Jerry Springer are actors, some of whom are paid. Jerry does not care about us, but about sensationalism and may exploit any group of people for ratings. A lot who get on the rough talk shows and let themselves get degraded are merely putting on acts. The reason they can stand to be drug through the mud is because the identity and labels they claim are not their own. When things get a little heated for a crossdresser or other man who pretends to be a woman, he can simply take off his dress and go home. To the TS, there is no "second self." If things get heated for us, we have to rough it out. This is not something we do as an escape, it is who we are. Since they are merely playing gender, they are immune to a lot of the consequences and cannot understand them. So they feel free to be reckless, and we (TSs) have to pay for the consequences of *their* actions.

I don't see why don't we become more like the African-American community. They don't put up with people getting up and mocking them. All the recent college parties that involved dressing as "blacks," donning blackface, and engaging in portrayals of antisocial behaviors raised the ire of the Black community, and rightfully so. So why don't we get upset when fake TSs lie and call themselves TSs in order to mock and degrade us? If racists dressed up as Blacks and pretended to be a degrading caricature of them and went onto a talk show, there would be a massive outcry. But why is this okay for us?

One other thing is that a transsexual who lives as a woman all the time *IS* a woman, not some man dressing or living as a woman. It is shame that some in the LGB community have some of the most problems respecting us as full members of the gender we say we are. A number of lesbians go out of their way to disrespect transsexual women by calling them "he" and "him" when referring to them. There is NO excuse to EVER call someone who lives every single day as a woman a man. Unlike transgenders, transsexuals are NO different from mainstream persons in their sexuality.

I think that the popular media likes to put a negative connotation to any "deviant" lifestyle, such as transgender people. One of my best friends is transgender, and he is just like anyone else. He has decided to stay away from pop culture and secular life because it doesn't respect him as a person. I can see how, as a lesbian, the pop culture phenomenon is directly geared towards straight individuals. I see your point. You are a person, not a phony, whatever drag queen-esque type of caricature that some producer whipped out of thin air in hopes to earn an Emmy. I know that he doesn't believe that any portrayal of a transgender person on any medium represents him. The sexuality of a transsexual person or the trans community is so fluid and diverse that it is impossible to capture them in a single portrait.

Thanks for posting this necessary and relevant discussion question amongst so many other questions filled with hatred and anonymity.

No.

Does that answer your question? Simply extend the idea to ask, does anyone on Jerry Springer represent anything outside the film studios of the Jerry Springer show? No, of course not, it is shameless exploitation and sensationalism. It is indicative of the market for feeding the body of lay public voyeurs.

But it does damage our social representation undoubtedly I agree.

Jerry Springer and others like him get the worst of the worst for their shows. Oprah has done a couple of shows that were fair to the transgendered community. I would hope that those of us who were able to get help and can accept our difference and act responsibly can help in gaining acceptance and erase the ignorance.

Some men do, but then again some men prefer the company of small, furry animals to women. There is no accounting for taste.
