Because every mind is not the same, nor is every person the same. Everyone develops intellectually, mentally, physically, and emotionally on their own time. Think about it, if everyone were on the same page, wouldn't things be really repetitive? No new ideas or thoughts, everyone would be the same: faceless nameless drones. The Age of Individualism would cease to exist.
A really good movie to watch that explores the idea of this, or at least it is relevant to this: Equilibrium. If you haven't already seen it and you watch it tell me what you think, I like it and I have yet to find another person who doesn't.

We have different tastes, agendas and genres.
And... not all would fit into the same library at the same time.
Just ask any "proof-reader" for a "sky-writing" company!! :)
