Yes you can, but only if you have a text messaging plan
the different plans are
Pay per message $0.10 per message $0.25 per picture message
$5 plan which is free verizon to verizon texts and pictures and 50 non verizon texts/pictures
$10 plan which is free verizon to verizon and 500 non verizon
$15 plan which is free verizon to verizon and 1000 non verizon
But the website vtext.com you can send texts for free to verizon memebers, and they can respond, but it is not included in their plans so it will be considered a non verizon text.

The only way to get free IN text messages is if you get the 500 text messaging plan or above, so you can get the free IN TXT messaging if you pay $10 for 500, or $15 for 1,000, or $20 for 2,500.
