That is a part of your old life and you will remember it from time to time.
You must try to bury it or, at least, ignore it.
Think:
That is over and I can not change it. I don't need to re-live it. Today is new. I decide. I do. I am responsible.
I want something else. I can make it happen. It will be different. I deserve a good life.
Read books by or listen to CDs by: Wayne Dyer (Manifest Your Destiny), the Dalai Lama (How to See Yourself As You Really Are) or Joyce Meyer (Stinkin' Thinkin'), (The Confident Woman.)
Ask around for other authors of similar books.
My best to you.

I've always found books to be helpful.. Not necessarily self-help books, but books that relate to things you've been through. I think certain authors have a way of being able to express situations and break them down in a way that lets you see it differently. I know it sounds odd, but I've had so many revelations in the middle of a great book, about my own life ans past.
I understand what you're going through- it's taken me a long time to let go of so many things in my past, especially when it came to one ex in particular. But recently, I've realized something that has set me free in a lot of ways...
"What does it solve, to hang onto all that pain and hurt? What does it solve to know answers to questions that never really had answers to begin with? Why keep holding onto the past, when all it does is affect the present? The answers I've been looking for have been right in front of me all along.
What can I do to change the past? Nothing. But I can make sure it doesn't become the future.
Let it all go. It's not worth holding on to. It never was."
Pretty much, holding onto the past or trying to look back to find answers doesn't do anything but keep you looking behind you, and even if you realize it or not, it does effect your present life. I know it's hard to let go, but it's imperative if you want to have a better life now then you did then.
Best of luck.

I would also suggest reading books by Eckhart Tolle like "The Power of Now". He also has a selection of CDs and DVDs but I would start with the books first.
If you've had traumatic experiences in the past I think it's normal to still think about them even years afterward.
Eckhart Tolle suggests that the present moment is all that we have, it's all that's real. We should really try to be in the present moment, but that is probably easier said than done.

I've been there, and I know that it is very difficult. Finally, I had to learn to block certain memories out--in order to live in the present. I used therapists (there are free and sliding-scale ones), self-help books, doing everything in my power to keep myself occupied in present-day activities, took classes at the community college, began to write (which is extremely helpful), learned to meditate (in order to clear my mind), learned that fresh air, exercise and a healthy diet really are important.
Please be better--and you can call your local emergency room to find out where the free and/or sliding-scale mental health clinics are--as they are not normally advertised in the Yellow Pages or anything.
