A traitor is one who commits treason.
"Violation of allegiance toward one's country or sovereign, especially the betrayal of one's country by waging war against it or by consciously and purposely acting to aid its enemies."
So, by that definition there would be extremely few American "traitors" in the U.S.
Republicans at Y/A love to throw the word around whenever someone says something they don't like or that they disagree with... anything that flies in the face of their own ideas... but that's very foolish. Dissent isn't treason. Dissent is as American as apple pie.
Intolerance of dissent! Now THAT is anti-American!

A traitor is someone who *actively works* against his or her country, especially by revealing state secrets to the enemy. A few years back we had a CIA head who, it turned out, sold information to the Soviets that got American spies killed. He was a traitor. Benedict Arnold, who wore an American uniform but secretly worked for the British during the Revolutionary War is the definitive American traitor. But to throw the words "traitor" or "treason" at anyone who disagrees with the way the government is being run--especially in a country that's built on the right of dissent and the duty of vigilance--is a gross over-exaggeration.

People in positions of power who do as they are ordered then claim they were only following orders. At Nuremberg the principle was established that there are higher orders and that all humans have the right not to be denied basic human rights even by people in power who are following effectively illegal orders (as at Guantanamo currently). These are the traitors in historical terms, not the people who question what is being done in their name with their money and to what end.

There is a trail of traitors beginning with Bush , Cheney, and all the Jewish neocons surrounding this administration, not to omit Delay, Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Abrahmof, Gingrich.. they all sold America to a mortal and immoral enemy to US, giving a TERRORIST entity (Israel) our Tax money by the billions and offering our children to die for a rogue "Armageddon" cause fabricated by Jews themselves.
I careless about the The Iraqi traitor , they will face their own justice once e pull out of that hell hole.

A traitor is one who sells his country to its foes for getting huge amounts of money...And as someone says, one who opposes the policies of his government(that's what's happening in US) are not traitors..they're just exercising their right to oppose in case the policies seem to be bad and which can come back to haunt his own country....
