socomum....don't you think it is important to question others beliefs? Without debate all you would hear is the good sides of the arguments and not the bad. I agree we do not need the petty name-calling and campaigns raised on not voting for another person (like Kerry's campaign for instance) but questioning the other's policies is needed.

For example, spreading out the distribution of goods sounds like a good argument until someone points out that in order to do so you must steal from those that are able to make more because they are more productive and give that to the less productive..thereby lowering the incentive to work hard and efficiently and decreasing the size of the pie overall so that almost no one wins.

I would LOVE to be able to vote for someone that doesn't backstab or degrade the other candidates. I would LOVE to vote for someone who is able to state their goals, beliefs and action plan without pointing out the negatives of their opponent. And I don't care if that person is black, white, green, asian, male, female or agnostic. Someone who can lead without degrading the other candidates would get my vote.

P.S. I don't think I said a thing about not questioning each other. I believe it can be done in a respectful non-condescending and rational way. All the candidates do now is treat each other like trash. We're all human beings, with different beliefs, moral codes and ethics. What it boils down to is voting for the lesser of two evils.

I could care less about the list you specified, I'd personally like to see a president who is not a republican or a democrat. A republican or democrat can easily be a few combinations of the list you supplied above, however a non-democrat/republican would not be "the status quo" politician, thus more willing to serve the needs of the people, and NOT the needs of those that lined his/her campaign..
