drain plug leak?

ok im done with the oil filter issue and i have put in new oil and now i checked for any leak and found that the drain plug is leaking. i have tightened itand im kinda scared to tighten it more because i mite mess up the thread. any quick tips? pls

replace the gasket on the drain plug or replace drain plug and gasket or put a little rtv on threads on drain plug

Your best bet at this point is to replace the drain plug and its gasket. They are usually only a couple bucks total and should be replaced after some time. And since you just hanged the oil, do the following:

a. Loosen the drain plug already in the pan.

b. As you take out the old plug, quickly stick a finger into the drain hole so you only lose a couple drops of oil.

c. Lastly, quickly place the new drain plug and gasket as you remove your finger and go ahead and tighten to the appropriate torque.

Any fix will require you to drain the oil. If its just a seep, then wait until the next oil change. Throw some kitty litter under the seep to absorb the oil. If its a steady leak, you may have cross threaded the drain plug. You will have to drain the oil again and replace the oil plug or maybe even the oil pan if it is damaged.

is the plug in the drain hole straight and square? is it seated all of the way in? if you can say that and the plug still has the o-ring seal around the bolt, there should be no leakage at all, it should be snug, not binding tight, dont strip or cross thread the threads or you`ll be in for a room ful of woe, changing oil pans is not fun at all, and can add up to lots of $$$

WAIT TILL YOU NEED A NEW OIL CHANGE. BUT CHECK YOUR OIL WEEKLY .YOU MESS WITH YOUR DRAIN PLUG NOW YOU WILL LOSE YOUR OIL. GOOD LUCK.

the easiest fix would be to wrap the threads with teflon tape.
