We presently live in New Jersey, but it is too crowded, too expensive, and too snobby for our tastes (the town we live in is, at least). We have three children, are planning on homeschooling for philosophical reasons, and would like to live somewhere with a larger homeschooling population, I am also interested in living somewhere where there is plenty of organic, and vegan food, as well as a more holistic approach to health. I would like to have a lot of land, and not a ton of people. We are mostly considering North Carolina, but I would love others opinions!

We are also much happier to support Mom &
Pop stores than corporations, so a small "home" town kind of place is perfect for us.

Michelle, do I have a place for you! I lived there for 3 years and hopefully one day will return...I miss it!

Carrboro, North Carolina.

It's a small town adjoining Chapel Hill, NC....where the University of North Carolina is located. The town is friendly, uncrowded, walkable, with good public transportation and very vegan/vegetarian/organic driven. The town has an awesome coop store. I know you're into home-schooling but think you might find that the public school system there is amazing...among the top 1% in the US, and it's very "left" in it's approach. There is a large community of holistic health practitioners as well. To top it all off, it's a pretty and affordable place to live. Visit, you'll fall in love with it too.

Maine, NH or Vt. There is plenty of land for sale in smaller towns and very friendly down to earth people. Many small farms and farmers markets. Many of us do home canning, holistic healing centers and are very family oriented. Major cities can be driven to in an hour or 2 but several mom and pop stores or smaller strip malls if needed.

Aren't there places in Vermont that are hip in the way of organics and holistic health?

You're not going to find areas with lots of land in the Northeast. Virginia, NC/SC are your best bets probably. If the land part is important it might push you farther west.

the whole northeast is starting to be a cesspool. stay far off from the blue counties. those are your vast cities with extreme crime costs, undesirable public faculties, extreme fee of residing, maximum infant poverty costs, the main site visitors.
