Internal or External CD player/burner or software issue?

My CD player on my laptop is no longer burning CD's, it will play CD's/DVD's and rip music but I can't burn to CD's anymore. If I need to replace my burner what is the best? If it is a software issue what am I doing wrong? I have a HP Pavillion laptop if that helps.

do a driver check and system update on your laptop. sometimes drivers can become corrupted now thanks to RIAA so check your drivers and try using some burning software like Burning Rom (very good highly recommended)
