For sure if he wants it now. Everyoone is so hard on him he is by far the best player in the league. Anyoone that rips on him it just mad he is not on there team. Look at how he handles himself off the ice. He gives all his time to the less fortunite and charity. If you do not like him your just mad he is not on your team you would be very happy for your kids or yourself to act like him and respect everyone like he does. He will go down as the best or one of best ever. Maybe even cup chanp this year. Also with his skil there is nobody in the league that gives more effort than him and takes more cheap shot. Why is that not sure for what he has done to hockey even after the lock out he really helped bring it back to what it is now.

Yes he should be captain.
He is the franchise player and must assume his role. He gets paid the big bucks, produces the most points and as Sidney Crosby goes, so do the Penguins.
To have him under another players' leadership would not be helpful as he is the player that everyone looks up to. Many say he is too young but to that I say that he has been a captain playing for junior teams and this would just be another team to lead.

You make good points but saying Crosby is in the level of guys like Briere and Marleau is going a little far Goal scoring is not everything. Crosby makes every player around him better. The Kevin Steven's effect as I call it Look at the stats of several players Despite moving to clearly worse teams Mark Recchi and John LeClair didn't drop at all in productions Colby Armstrong and Eric Christensen both on Crosby's line several times both have endured drops in production since being traded to Atlanta Crosby also is one of the most talented playmakers in the league and assists though underated are just as important. A goal's a goal. Just his presence keeps his numbers down and production down. How many teams have someone shadow Crosby. How many more options are avaliable for a pass because the defense is keyed on Crosby He's regressed some as a scorer perhaps also because of the reasons I said, defenses keying more on him I also blame the additon of Malkin who's more of a true goal scorer. Malkin's nearly as talented and allows for more assists. Notice Crosby's assists went up by 20 in Malkin's 1st yr. The additon of Malkin also decreased his role as "the guy". Crosby can also take over a game on any given night something few other players can boast. Bottom line is he the next Gretzky. No. Is he a great player, No doubt

Sidney Crosby will become the captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1 or 2 more years after he matures more. Right now it would most likely make him lose his focus. He is hot right now!!!

shotgun_m what does Ovechkin not being a Captain have to do with Crosby being one?
I don't think he should be named captain yet because he doesn't need the added pressure. I think he would make an excellent captain. He already leads by example but he already has a big X on his back by being young and being good. Every team they play tries to run him. So let him play a few more years, get some more maturity and experience then give it to him.

No, hes fine as an alternating captain, besides there is no reason to, Ovechkin is not captain of the capitals (Chris Clark)
Crosby, although the unspoken leader, is still very young (20 in august) and needs time to mature. The night he gets his first legal alcoholic drink is the night he gets crowned captain, or when he turns 21.

Officially he may not be the captain, but in all reality he already is. There is no need to slap the "C" on him, though. It would just be another distraction for him. Let him mature more and do what he's doing. He's fine the way he is. He's already the leader of that team. The "C" really doesn't matter. All it does it make it so he has to argue with the refs all the time. He does that plenty without the "C!"

You need to be a leader to be a captain. Why would Crosby be a captain? Just let him rack up points. He is not going to be a complete player or leader-just let him do what he does-get a lot of points. Why burden him?
