Is it just me or is music getting worse by the year? It doesnt have any meaning to it anymore...?

I think the music that everyone is listening to nowadays doesnt have any real meaning to it. Its just a whole bunch of rappers rappin about the same thing every other one does, a bunch of half-singing wannabe popstars, half hardcore rock bands, people that release songs that all sound the same, etc. It seems like its more about the money and the fame that comes along with releasing the album then it is about the actual lyrics of the songs on it. Also, Im not an old fart who doesnt like anything, I actually am in my teens, so you cant use that against me. and if youve heard any thing good could you please recommend it? (no christian/gospel music please)

Support your local music scene. If you can find a locally owned record shop (Mom and Pop not a Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal Mart) ask if they have a section of musicians from your area and you might find stuff you like.
Also you can just go back to earlier eras and listen to the classics and screw what is on the charts. Most music form the late 50's, 60's and 70's still hold up today as it did when it came out.

Nope, it isn't just you. These days anything that catches on is immediately sent into the recording industries clone machine and within days artists that look and sound just like the first are pumped out. Cloned right down to the guitars and amps. In the past 2 years I've only heard 3 bands that I bothered to check out. Velvet Revolver impressed me by managing to stay sober and put out an authentic hard rock record. The Killers I listened to because they had lyrics that actually told stories and their stuff didn't all sound like Cure/Nirvana mashups or the millionth rehash of the Ramones and Husker Du. I thought Kaiser Chiefs had something but didn't check them out beyond "I Predict A Riot" and Metric was interesting the one thing I heard from them.

I'm laughing about the old fart comment because I'm getting there but I still love rock and still listen for something to kick *** and shake things up again. I'd suggest you use this time to check out the bands that had unique styles and set landmarks that no one today has a clue about.

If you want some suggestions it would help if you could give a couple of examples of what you do like. I wouldn't want to recommend the Godfathers to someone who likes Justin Timberlake.although it would be a drastic improvement. Let me suggest one band though because you mentioned lyrics and one of the best bands of all was "X" out of Los Angeles early punk.with devastating lyrics.
