you may be pregnant.
Alternatively, you may be underweight. If you are very athletic, that may also cause this (like if you are a gymnast)
Do not worry about getting cancer or facial hair. Neither of these things will happen because of anything you mentioned.

It's likely to be stress that's causing you to miss your periods. I would talk to your doctor about possible problems, that way you know the facts are correct. Find stress-relievers for yourself, whether that be playing a sport, drawing, writing, painting, reading, taking a walk, running, listening to music, just sitting alone and thinking, watching a movie, etc... Anything safe to help relieve some of the stress you are under. If you are into reading, try anything by Nicholas Sparks, I promise you will be able to delve into these novels and become relaxed if you enjoy reading. However, find something that works for YOU.
If you are athletic this could also be preventing your periods from coming. Have you changed your diet at all or are you severely underweight? This can also affect your periods regulation.
But you are also 17, and sometimes your period is still becoming regular at this age.

I assume since you've been to a doctor that pregnancy has been ruled out, however, if you are still not having normal periods, you need to go back to your doctor and let him/her know that this is still a problem.
Also- when you see your doctor ask them about your questions of cancer and facial hair. There are a lot of misconceptions like that out there. Your doctor has probably heard them all, so no need to be embarassed.

You may have a cyst on your ovary or a hormonal condition that is causing this. Unfortunately, not getting your period is not normal as an underlying condition is causing it. You have to have your mom take you back to the doctor for further diagnosis..

You could have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (POS). You should get that checked out with a doctor because it can easily be treated by going on the contraceptive pill, which gives your body the hormones you can't produce yourself.

That's an interesting question. You might try searching for the answer on Wikipedia if you can't find it here. Good luck.
