well, which beauty pageant is it? is it the miss america program where you must start at a local pageant? Or, has your mom been watching the miss usa controversy? Tell your mom that it is more than just a beauty contest. Because they are plenty of people that aren't lookers and they win. Being in a beauty pageant is about gaining confidence to be in front of people. It's about learning poise and grace, using your intelligence and confidence to be able to talk to people, and volunteering as you will have to choose a platform. You can win scholarship money and help your community become a better place. So, research the pageant you want to be in, talk to the director, and be prepared to work hard.

First of all, I don't think your attitude (by calling your mom an "a**") will make her change her mind.

Plus, it is a lot of money to get what you need to be in a pageant. If you are paying for it yourself, I don't see why it would be such a big deal.

I don't think so much that your mother cares what people will think about her. I think that it's because beauty pageants can be so time consuming and even begin to take over one's life.

Mom's know best. Depending on how old you are, I think it's best for you to focus on school and a career. And maybe even an attitude change.

I'm not being rude. I'm just giving you my honest opinion.

Pageants are really nice, but they can be quite expensive. An old friend of mine won our state pageant, her dress costing $1200 and makeup, shoes, opening number outfit etc. costing well over $500, and that doesn't include the cost of registration

- for Miss USA and Teen USA State Pageants, the cost is $1,000 to register through getting sponsors and donations and out-of-pocket. That's a bit expensive. That doesn't include your dieting, working out expenses, travel expenses, hotel, or anything!

- I only suggest entering the pageant if you are being sponsored by companies, or getting a part-time job to pay the expenses. Parents who already aren't interested, won't pay that kind of money. They would rather pay your college tuition instead.

I'm entering in a pageant as well, but I've saved up my money and planned a year in advance. It's gonna cost me about $3000 for the whole shebang. My mom thinks its bratty and snobbish, and think i'm being pretentious, but I'm an adult but it all comes down to the $$$ that I'm paying. Good luck saving money sweetie cause its gonna take me 2 years to do so.

Think finances first, and if that works out, I wish you the best of luck!!!!!

She probably just wants to protect you from a shallow world where girls get anorexic, feel bad about their bodies, and are pressured into being sexually active.
Perhaps she doesn't want you posing half naked for magazines one day.
