My house is less than a year old. When we had a huge amount of ice and snow we used rock salt on our driveway. Unfortunately, it ate holes in the concrete! We later found out that this should never be done unless the driveway is over a year old. So, now there are quarter sized pock marks all over our driveway. What is the best way to repair it without forking over tons of cash to a contractor for repairs? Would quickcrete do the job?

We bought a new house in Snowy Chicago and I parked my car in driveway and the salt got onto the new concrete and made it look like the Ho Chi Men Trail. Here is how i fixed it. I found the advice at our local library and it has worked just fine.

Ordinary latex paint added to concrete acts as a hardener and one of the best bonder agents possible.

Mark off the area with a line of white latex paint as a marker. Then take and paint with latex paint the low spot just minutes prior to application of the patch as described in the following. Then mix up a mix of 5 quarts of very coarse sand to 3 quarts of Portland Cement and add to that 1/2 cup of latex paint plus add water till the mix reaches consistency of a heavy batter. Pour into the spot as needed and level off with a board. The after an hour or so when then cement has set a bit take a broom or brush and give it a texture similar to the surround concrete. Do this when the weather is cool and dark and the cement stays wet and hardens to max strength that way. You will be satisfied with this patching method and a year so so you will not see the difference in the patch or original concrete.

This is a patch that is permanent and lasts for the life of the original concrete at least.

How To Repair Concrete Driveway Potholes

Go to Lowe's or Home Depot, or your local hardware store and tell them what happened. There is a regular patching compound for this problem. You just have to make sure you get all of the little piece of grit and debris out of the holes first and then fill them in. Wait until it gets warmer out though. I don't think you should EVER use rock salt on concrete~ regardless of how old it is though:) Very corrosive stuff.
Hope this helps!
Good Luck!!

Is the house still under warranty? Driveway too? If not.. I guess you can buy some cement patch at a Home Depot.. I patched a hole in our sidewalk 10 years ago and it's still holding.. Good luck
