We live in a nice area.. and all of a sudden we got roof rats in our attic.. Are they about the size of a regular mouse.. They don't appear to be large.. Can't figure how they got up there unless they climbed from the trees.. The problems is apparently every where in our area.

the only need a hole the size of a nickle to get in there. but here is a sure fire cure for them (scratch the fire part) take some tom cat mouse poisen you get that at most any good hardware store. and then get some Imodium A-D. smash the imodium id up and mix with the tom cat. it works great. here is why.

the tom cat will do two think one it make them bleed internally (ie) hemerage. second it will give them insatabile thirst. now the imodium will constapate them so the will either drink them self to death and drown. or bleed internally to death. but either way thewre going eat it and die. now thats a 100% SURE FIRE CURE

I recently had a rat problem in our garage. Traditional snap traps work very well when you use them correctly. Rats are larger than mice. Make sure you get rat traps, not mouse traps. Rat traps are much larger and they have stiff springs that will do their job.

Rats cover ground by following walls or other barriers. They never run across the middle of open ground. So put the rat trap with the bait side up against the wall. Rats are very aware of their surroundings and when they see something new in the environment, they will be shy to approach it. So put peanut butter on the trap without setting it and let the rat eat it once or twice. Peanut butter is great because of its stickiness and will more easily make the trap go off. Then, when you think the rat is fooled, put a dab of peanut butter on it again and this time SET IT! No more rat. Repeat for multiple rats.

I say go with traps because if rat poison kills a rat in an inaccessible spot, you're in for some bad odors.

We have a problem with squirrels here getting in the attic. They chew through the screens covering the ventilation holes under the eaves of the house and get in the house that way. Even putting the heavy-duty aluminum covers doesn't stop them, they can chew through those too. Be careful poisoning them, if they die in your attic or fall into a wall they will stink for a couple months at least. They are more than a noise problem, they can chew your electrical wires up in the attic and set the house on fire.
