Hey,

I raise rabbits and guninea pigs and I can assure you that pet stores love to overally inflate the prices of both. They are trying to make a profit off the expenses of paying the breeder for the animal and caring for the animal before it sells.

Despite that, $45 is ridiculous. I sell my piggies for $10-15, and mine are show quality and pedigreed. They also are health guarenteed. Therefore, I suggest you look around...maybe contact you counties 4-H program and see if there are any youth breeders in the area. Another good place to look would be a feed and grain supplier such as Agway or Tractor Supply stores, they tend to have guinea pigs and rabbits for more reasonable prices or know of breeders in the area.

Good Luck!

First, make confident that your friends have an interest in having a guinea pig with the time and factors to look after it - in any different case it is in all threat a brilliant imposition! i might recommend getting a guinea pig from a rescue or preserve. They cost adoption expenditures akin to a puppy save, and generally comprehend extra approximately guinea pigs (from a care and advice attitude) than a puppy save. That cage isn't sufficiently super. i might advise development your guy or woman from coroplast and cord shelving - in case you google guinea pig cages and coroplast you will discover countless super designs which will properly be geared up for extra much less costly than that tiny cage. additionally, somebody stated they stink? no longer in case you clean the cage usually and the cage is adequately super.

I'd advise you NOT to buy from a pet store, most pet stores do not take care of them as well as they should. Go onto www.petfinder.com and see if they have any guinea pigs in you're area. Hope that's helped and oh if you can try to get two pigs, (both same sex) 'cause they are very social and love other guinea pigs.

For a pet, this is too much to pay for one! If you go to a rabbit show, (you can find a list of places/shows on the A.R.B.A. website... Thats American Rabbit Breeders Association. They usually show guinea pigs at these shows, and often times will have some for sale. You can get lists of breeders names and sometimes phone numbers. This way you can get purebred ones if you are interested in showing or pet quality ones. They can range in prices from Free to $100 for the top quality. At shows I've seen them for sale for between $5.00 and 35.00... SO If you are buying from a petstore which usually has little knowledge of them, I would suggest getting one from a breeder and deciding if you are willing to spend what they are asking for the quality of guinea pig you are looking for.

so lets see its 45-50 dollers for the guinea pig its self and around 100-200 dollers for a cage
around 12 dollers for some food and 15-20 dollers for a good toy or two and a hut to stay in
5-20 dollers for bedding 1-5 dollers for a water bottle.

there expensive little buggers around 178 at the least and 307 or so at the most thats just my estimation for everything to start you out
