We're all familiar with The Top of the Hub and Spinnakers, and I know about this list:

But do you all have any recommendations for catching a good (cheap, quiet and private) view of Boston with a date? It doesn't have to be a restaurant -- in fact, I'd prefer something similar to the view from the docks on the Esplanade, or the Washington Tower in Mt. Auburn Cemetery:

Thanks in advance!

I would recommend going to Castle Island in South Boston. It's got some great views of Boston, and an esplanade that's a great place to people watch in the warmer weather.

Hi - life long Boston resident here. I have two suggestions.

If you wanted to take a bit of a drive out of the city to view the city, the Blue Hills Reservation in Milton has a nice, easy well marked paths up to the a lookout with a fabulous view of Boston - its free! This is if you like to walk outdoors and would be more of a daytime thing. There are also a few animals outside you can checkout - a river otter, 2 hawks, a snowy owl, ducks and I think they have a deer or two. The Blue Hills reservation also boasts the longest continuing working weather station in the US.

Also, at the Arnold Arboretum there is a hill you can walk up that has a nice view of Boston. Here are some links.

The Olmstead park in Jamaica Plain has a great view of the downtown at the city.

The hill which overlooks the view is a bit remote, but a decent walk up a paved path. I went this past fall for the look at the foliage against the city and it was quite pretty.

It's not a view of the city but on the other side of the marriott by the aquarium there are some nice views of the harbor.
