My finacee and I are getting married in the fall and want to try for children right away. I have been on bc pills for 10 years. Am I going to have a hard time conceiving? How long should I wait before trying?

I was on the pill for about 7 years. My doctor advised me to wait 3 months after I stopped taking the pill. It took about 5 months for my period to get to a normal pattern. And it took another 2 months after that until I got pregnant. I stopped the pill in July and became pregnant in February. Although I know someone who got pregnant the month after she stopped the pill. Good luck!

First off - I've known two people to get pregnant on the Nuva Ring, so that is something to consider! One even got pregnant with twins! Second, missing one pill is not going to get you pregnant assuming you have already been taking the pill responsibly. Yes, the pill is not 100% effective, but after doing some research online for myself I read that you have to really miss almost a whole week or more to get pregnant, and it depends when in the cycle you missed the pills. I'm not saying it's ok to just miss pills and you will be fine; just that the pills are pretty effective overall. Third, to actually answer your question, some women are fertile the next cycle going off BC, and for some it can take awhile. It really depends. Talk to your doctor, but from everything I've read it is ok to get pregnant as soon as you get off BC (some doctors say wait a bit, but studies show the hormones won't affect a baby). Your wife should start tracking her BBT and CM once she goes off her BC and that way she will have a good idea of whether or not she ovulated. The book Taking Charge of Your Fertility is an EXCELLENT resource for info on how to get pregnant, track signs of ovulation, or how to not get pregnant, among many other things.

I was also on BC pills for 10 years, and I became pregnant within 4 months of stopping them. It didn't occur to me to check with a doctor first, but as you can tell, we didn't have any trouble conceiving. You might want to ask your OB first though.

you are supposed to use an alternate form of BC for 3 months. I stopped taking the pill in a february, got pregnant in march and had twins. My cycle seemed to be messed up because of the BC and I think it made me release too many eggs. Good luck.

There is more risk of miscarriage if you get pregnant too soon after coming off the pill. Giving yourself a minimum of 4 months after the pill is probably a good idea. Your body needs time to adjust. I miscarried after being off the pill for two months---and my doc said I rushed things a little. He said that natural hormone levels take time to get back into rhythm.

When i decided to get pregnant i was on the depo shot so when that shot was due i didn't get it and started trying right away and i got pregnant 11 months later. I would start trying as soon as possible cause really you don't know how long it may take.

The drs will tell you 6 months but my friend was on it for 15 years stopped taking it and got pregnant that month (14days later) her baby was healthy and she had a great pregnancy. It all depends on the individual. Good Luck

Some people who take the pill for long periods of time have a little harder time of concieving BUT if you just stop taking it before your period, then you should ovulate regularly the next month I believe.

My sister would stop using her's and within a couple of weeks would be pregnant. Both of her daughter's are happy and healthy young adults now.
