Here it is:

With the wind, an airplane travels 2200 miles in 4 hours. Against the wind, it takes 5 hours to travel 2350 miles. Find the rate of the wind and the rate of the plane in still air.

Please help!!!

I need an equation you don't even have to solve it if you don't want to.

plane speed + wind = 2200/4 mph

plane speed - wind = 2350/5 mph

p + w = 550
p - w = 470

im not sure if this equation is what you need but:
if the plane travels with the wind: 2200m divided by 4hours it is traveling 550MPH. against the wind: 2350/5hrs= 470MPH. add both these values and divide by two. (550+470)/2=510.
therfore the plane travels 510MPH in still air. if the plane traveles against the wind the MPH is reduced by 40. and with the wind the plane speed is acceleratied by 40MPH. bottom line, the plane travels 510MPH and the wind is 40MPH. try and make a formula with that

whenever you do these "against the current" stuff, use these equations:

c + r = speed along the current (faster)
c - r = speed against the current (slower)

c stands for current speed, and r stands for rate of speed for the traveler guy (in still air/water/etc.). Notice the c and r are both rates, so the answer is also a rate.
Plug in your numbers and then use elimination or substitution to find the answer.
