There is about a $1000 difference between the sets I have been comparing. Is it worth spending that much. I think I rounded it down to the Samsung 50" D.L.P., or the Sony gran wega 60" 3lcd. Both those are 780p.

Things to consider as well you need to look at contrast rates, and screen speed.

A blah 1080p with a poor contrast ratio and slow screen speed will not be as good as a great 720p. Get the Sony.

Yes, it makes a difference. You have almost 300 more lines of resolution. On larger TV's it is even more apparent that the signal is being "stretched" with less resolution.

1080i is better than 780p IMO. In the 1080i (interlace) the signal will only refresh the part of the picture that is changing, so sometimes you see blocking or pixcellation in the background while something happens in the foreground.

Here's a good way to see if it's right for you. Answer this:

If you paid more than $200 for a dvd player a few years ago to get the better quality over a vcr instead of waiting until last year when they really dropped in price, you'd be ready to get the 1080 upgrade.

If you were patient and waited until the price dropped after 5 years or so before investing in a DVD player, might as well wait on the 1080 upgrade.

Good Luck!

Yes, you don't want to get a 720p, that's like a computer monitor. If you want real HD you need 1080i or 1080p. Don't rush there's not that many HD channels yet and only new films on DVD are in widescreen anyway. Don't rush, the price will just keep dropping for HD TV's.

Probably not for now because the 720p's prices are dropping faster than the 1080p's prices, so you save more by buying a 720p. But it all depends on which one you prefer more.

first off it is 720 p and from the info i have gotten it is not worth buying 1080p unless you have a blu ray player because that is the only thing that will display that resolution. nothing on tv is broadcast in 1080p. so personally i would not spend the extra money unless u have it.
