if you are talking about an original xbox not a 360,you would need to have the xbox modified, either with a soft mod or a mod chip in order to share files with a computer. after that you can set up a network between the computer and the xbox with a router and 2 patch cables, or directly between the two with a crossover cable. Im sure the same goes for the xbox 360, you just have to set a static ip on the xbox and your pc use a Ftp program to place files on the xbox or set files to be shared on your network and the xbox will be able to access them. I would suggest the use of a router it makes it much easier to set up, and if you have broadband internet, both can access the internet through the router.
