Well the first song i learned how to play was tears in heaven by Eric Clapton. The first part is the easiest. It gets a bit harder towards the end but the beginning isn't that hard.

practically anything by Neil YOung. heart of gold = em C D G my advice is hear a song on the radio/cd/ whatever, google it, but make sure to ask for guitar chords, fight your way thru the pop-up ads and have fun. one song per week. but really, begin with Neil young. Oh, and Stairway to Heaven has like 35 chords. Going to California is much easier

Wait! I thought it was in the rule book for beginner guitarists that says:
Thou first song will be and shall always be.... "Smoke on the Water."
(Otherwise..... go for twinkle twinkle little star in combo with row row row your boat. I swear you'll be a hit. *wink*)
