When was the contiguous US bombed by a foreign country.?

What country was it, what were the events surrounding the event, what damage, what actions were taken?

A japanese sub. shelled the California coast during the second world war.

The japanese also launched balloons that were transported by the jet-stream. These had explosives and/or incendiary bombs on them. Over a thousand reached the West Coast. One landed close to my house. Only one caused fatalities, some church picnickers in Oregon found one and fooled with it, it exploded and killed some (I think three or four) of them.

During the war of 1812, the British invaded the U.S. and burned Washington D.C.

9/11 would count if our regime would name Saudi Arabia as the country that launched the attack.

World war II, Japan sent balloons with bombs into the jet stream designed to slowly leak and drop of the US. They managed to get a lot of uninhabited land, though they did kill a few people. The detonators didn't work so well, and many are probably left unexploded somewhere. Not action was taken other then encouragement to keep it quiet, which worked. Japan stopped because they had no clue as to whether or not they were working.

And 9/11 was not a bombing. It was a terrorist attack. There is a difference.

And Manhattan isn't technically contiguous with the rest of the US...

The Japanese used balloons to bomb the West Coast during WW2. There was very minimal damage, only a few lives taken, and most bombs hit uninhabited areas. There wasnt really any action taken since the bombs caused such minimal damage.

Don't think that has ever happened to any great extent.... not by a country.... however if you include non country military the answer would be differ ant.
