I attend every class and take good notes. Try to sit near the front and make eye contact with professor. Note taking should consist of writing down the key words, phrases, statements of the lecture. After each word, phrase, or statement, add a brief explanation preferably in your own words or using an example given by the professor. I like to use arrows, lists, circles, dashes, to emphasize the flow of information. If you can, between classes or once a week, go over the notes using a highlighter and try to recall the lecture mentally. What you don't understand or remember, look up in the book, or arrange to speak with the professor at office hours, through email, or after class.

Usually, good notes get me through a class. I don't especially like textbooks, but depending on your professor or the class you're taking, you may have to read more or less of a book or books.

Good luck.

Are you not happy with yours? If you aren't than the best thing is to ask yourself what are the best study conditions for yourself. Ask yourself questions about how, when and where you study. Do you just study from notes or from the text as well? Maybe one is not sufficient. Do study on a full stomach? That might slow you down. are you easily distracted by noise? If so then you need quiet. These are just a few questions you need to ask yourself in order to increase your performance and improve grades.

I procrastinate. I think I do well under pressure though. It's not the best study habit out there but it works for me.
