Listen to your conscience - it it's wrong for you, then don't continue using it. Part of being an adult is doing what's right & only you can be the judge of that.

Well it depends on what they consider "bad".

Myspace is riddled with "tracking" code which can allow people to obtain your IP address. The solution to that problem is only to use Myspace with a proxy. That way the only IP they can discover is that of the proxy and your real location is not revealed.

We never allow any friends except those we are acquainted with in person. And of course our profiles are set to private.

There has been some hacking of Myspace so it would be best if no personal information was entered even if you have your profile set to "private" (or photos with revealing info in them either). And although it's very tempting to register with the "My school" feature, it is a security risk. For older people, listing their university shouldn't be a problem. I was mainly thinking of kids in primary and secondary schools.
