Get checked for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. There isn't any medicine that will fix it but being on the pill gets you regular again. PCOS is not uncommon but there are other symptoms you should check out too.

Irregular periods are normal, especially for a younger woman. As long as you are getting a period at least once every three months, you are okay. Mention it to your gynecologist when you go in, but it's probably something that will settle down as you age. If it doesn't go away by, say, your early twenties, it's possible you may have something like polycystic ovaries or high/low hormone levels.

If you want to have more predictable periods, you can go on any hormonal contraceptive (the pill, the patch, the NuvaRing). All of these suppress normal menstrual bleeding, but you will still get periods due to hormone withdrawal.
