Duke tends to inspire stronger feelings - people love them or hate them. Unless you are a Duke fan, people tend to either love UNC or feel ambiguous towards them. UNC also won a national championship more recently, so I'd say UNC.
To the person above who said that Duke is a better school academically, I'd like to respond... not much better. At the ranking I saw, Duke was #8. UNC was #27 nationally. UNC was also the 5th highest out of all the public universities. If UNC were a private university, they would easily be able to rank themselves as high, if not higher, than Duke.

i'm a carolina fan up in pa, and i can tell you this much...no matter where you are, duke fans are sure to be there

im a nc fan myself and i live in the midwest but ive seen so many stupid duke fans so i think duke has more but not too many more

Carolina for the obvious reason that its a much bigger school and produced better nba players.

Carolina because anywhere you go, if you look around you see at least one tarheel hat or shirt or something.
