My son will be 11 month old next week. The last few days he has been taking a 30-45 minute naps in the morning and afternoon... he used to sleep at least an hour-hour and a half at each nap. I'm wondering if this is a sign that he's ready to switch to one longer nap in the afternoon?

It could be a sign. My daughter didn't cut her naps down to one until she was 17 months old. All children are different though. Sometimes, if she's had a really busy body day, she'll still take her two naps. But, then won't want to go to sleep at night at the normal bedtime.

Depends on the child and how much sleep they are getting at night.
if they are sleeping 11-13 hours at night then one afternoon nap may surfice but if they are not getting enough at night then they may need two. My nephew started napping once at about 11 months.

It might be, but let him call the shots. If he starts to stay awake in all morning, try putting him down a little earlier in the afternoon. This sounds really normal, my daughter gave up morning naps really early, but my son didn't. Different babies I guess.

My daughter began having one nap at around 9 or 10 months.

Maybe.
Or maybe he's growing more.
When kids grow, they sleep and eat more.
Watch his eating habits to be sure.

My two-month-old boy is awake 7am-3p, I feed him, then he takes half-hour naps after eating < every 2-3 hours> throughout the day, untill I lay him down at midnight..and then he sleeps till 5am.

So no 2 little boys are alike.
You may not know what is going to change, untill it does.
Happened to me...
